The key is not to rush the turn. Most methods include a small step that prevents a hole where the direction changes. Choose the method your project names, work a small swatch first, and look at both sides of the fabric after it relaxes.
When the project asks you to work a wrap or another turn marker together later, that is the moment that closes the small gap. The shaping is doing useful work even when it feels unusual at first.
