Start by finding the chart key. Each symbol represents an action, and the key explains whether that action is worked on the right side, wrong side, or both.
Use a magnetic marker, ruler, or strip of paper to keep your place. Count the repeats before you begin and place markers in the knitting when that makes the rhythm easier to see.
A chart swatch is especially helpful. It lets you practise the symbols, check the stitch count after each repeat, and see how the openings change after blocking.
